Mellow Parenting has developed over the years from the collaboration of several "parents" both in research and in practice.
Its origins are firmly based on research evidence in the field of parenting and mental health.
Programmes of support aimed at parents only may allow parents to feel better and less isolated but do not necessarily have an impact on the quality of the relationship with the child (Cox 1993, Cox et al 1991, Oakley et al 1995).
Research evidence for behavioural interventions is strong in effecting change in the parent-child interactions but the very families who need it most are the least likely to engage because of social deprivation and isolation or poor mental health. (Webster-Stratton 1998).
Mellow Parenting combines in-depth support for parents and specific work on the parent-child relationship.
Mellow Parenting was granted Charitable Status with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator as a Charity operating within the UK, and began to trade from it’s new premises in Harmony Row, Govan, Glasgow, on the 1st August 2006.
Mellow Parenting is managed by a Management Committee made up of voluntary members from across a wide background throughout the UK.
