Why Mellow?

Being a parent is both rewarding and challenging, no parent is perfect! The good news is that small changes can make big differences. By working on strengthening your relationship with your child, big improvements can be made in your life, and theirs! If you are happier and taken care of, your children will be too.

We want to support you to uncover your own solutions and make friends along the way. So, if you are pregnant or have children between the ages of 0 – 5 years, Mellow is here for you.

What to Expect Image

What to Expect

Before the group starts, a Mellow trained group facilitator will meet with you on a 1-1 basis either in person or virtually. They will explain what the group will be like and the benefits of attending. If you agree Mellow is the right group for you, they will arrange to take a video clip of you with your child or ask you to create one.

The facilitator will then view the video with you, looking out for what is going well! There are no “perfect parents” but you may be surprised to find many good things you are already doing! Usually we only see our faults. This can seem a bit frightening at first, but being able to think about your own ‘real life’ situation is a great way to see what works for you.

Before the first group officially starts, you will be invited to join a “meet and greet” session, where you will meet your fellow group members and additional Mellow trained facilitator/s.

Group Overview

Each day of the group has a different focus, but they all follow the same structure:

  • Personal Group

You will talk with other parents about your life and well-being. How are you doing? Some topics are Trust, Depression, You and Your Body and Self Esteem.

  • Child Activity

Your child will be asked to join you in a fun activity like Gloop, Bubbles, Nursery Rhymes, Music or Hand Painting. All activities are free/inexpensive.

  • Parenting Workshop

You will discuss parenting with topics like Understanding, Keeping Children Busy, Feelings etc. and share parent videos so you can offer your support and advice to other parents. No one is an expert and we can all learn from one another.
