Online Mellow – online training is for facilitators who wish to deliver online groups to parents with children aged 0 – 5 years.

Online Mellow was devised from our original (offline/face to face) Going Mellow programme for parents with babies under 18 months and toddlers 18 months plus. Going Mellow has been shown to help parents with their mental health and well-being, plus improvements in parent-child interactions and development.

Online Mellow was developed during COVID 19, when restrictions meant that parents and children could not join face-to-face groups.

Designed to be delivered online over 8 weeks, in separate gender groups, sessions include learning and activities for parents e.g. relaxation and mindfulness exercises, baby and toddler interaction focused activities, video feedback, plus ‘Have a Go! prompts for parents to try out at home. There is also an optional session for partners to attend.

Included in this programmes; Online CARO (Child Adult Relationship Observation). CARO is designed for professionals who need to make a structured and reliable observation of a baby and a career. This might be during a regular healthy baby contact, a clinical assessment or part of child safeguarding and allows the professional to make a rapid and well-grounded assessment which can be part of an investigation and or intervention and trigger a deeper investigation if needed.

CARO provides practitioners with a framework for understanding carer/baby interactions and a vocabulary to share observations with professionals or provide strengths-based feedback to parents/carers.

Strengths-based video feedback is a unique component of a Mellow group. A parent and child caretaking activity is filmed before and after the group. The practitioner will then talk through the video with the parent in an individual session. Self-modelling through video feedback is an effective learning tool that is used in a number of disciplines e.g. in sport to improve performance. When a parent watches a video of how they interact with their own child it can help them see what works and what does not work so well, thus supporting change in the parent’s behaviour.

Video interaction can also be used to evidence a change in the parent/child relationship during the course of and after a Mellow group. Video provides parents with evidence of what they are getting right with their child, and the chance to reflect on what they want to change.

The three CARO domains are based on the original six dimensions of Mellow described in the original Academic Mellow Parenting Observation System (MPOS).

Interactive Online Mellow training takes place on Zoom over three half days and includes some home learning too. Should your employer not allow you to use zoom, we will send you a link to join under our subscription.

There are 8 workbooks which include; the manuals entitled Going Online with Mellow and Facilitated Online Mellow Babies, Going Online with Mellow and Facilitated Online Mellow Toddlers, plus copies of logbooks for both Mums & Dads.

For those previously trained in Going Mellow – Babies & Toddlers workshop, with a good experience of delivering groups (in person), if you would like to run Online Babies or Toddlers groups without attending online training we invite you to have a virtual chat with us about the nuances of delivering groups online, confidentiality, safety etc. If we feel that you have a good grasp of the programme and can efficiently run the revised programme online, we will give you the opportunity to purchase the supporting materials without attending the online version of the training. The £500 cost for the materials includes workbooks, reflective consultation, evaluation support, accreditation, access to further resources online and ongoing general support from the Mellow Team.

If you have not achieved accreditation in the standard Going Mellow delivery, or are new to Mellow programmes, we would encourage you to attend Online Mellow training.

Our original (offline/face to face) Mellow Bumps & Dads to-be antenatal programme aims to support parents to be. The programme is intended to decrease the stress levels of parents-to-be in pregnancy, to help them understand that babies are born ready to interact and the importance of early interaction for brain development.

Due to COVID 19 lockdown restrictions, many Mellow Bumps parental groups were halted or not able to start, so in order for groups to continue we created an online version of the training programme for facilitators; Online Mellow Bumps. As of Jan 2022, we have developed and merged our Online Bumps programme to enable facilitators to train online and be equipped with the knowledge and materials to deliver both online AND offline groups.

We are pleased to offer this online training to facilitators who wish to train and deliver this antenatal programm  to parents to-be (online or face-face). Whether you are a midwife, health visitor, family support worker or someone who is supporting families with additional health and social care needs – we have put together a seven week programme with topics and activities for the parents-to-be, their unborn baby. Group sessions last 90 minutes and parents receive accompanying log books which include space for notes and ‘Have a Go’ exercises.

Whilst the parental groups are designed to be delivered separately both mums and dads to-be are included in the same two half-day training sessions.

Interactive online training takes place on Zoom and it includes some home learning too. Should your employer not allow you to use zoom, we will send you a link to join in under our subscription.

There are 3 workbooks which include; the manuals entitled Going Online with Mellow and Facilitated Online Mellow Bumps and Dads to be, plus a sample logbook for Parents to be.

For those previously trained in Mellow Bumps with a good experience of delivering groups (in person), if you would like to run Online Bumps groups without attending online training we invite you to have a virtual chat with us about the nuances of delivering groups online, confidentiality, safety etc. If we feel that you have a good grasp of the programme and can efficiently run the revised programme online, we will give you the opportunity to purchase the supporting materials without attending the online version of the training. The £200 cost for the materials includes workbooks, reflective consultation, evaluation support, accreditation, access further resources online and ongoing general support from the Mellow Team.

If you have not achieved accreditation in the standard Mellow Bumps delivery, or are new to Mellow programmes, we would encourage you to attend Online Mellow Bumps training.
