Mellow Parenting and Home-Start
In their recent report about young mum's mental health, the CYMPC and the MMHA have discussed how Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde delivers Mellow Bumps programmes to support parents-to-be, decrease stress levels during pregnancy, and improve physical and mental wellbeing.
Home-Start delivers different plans of non-judgmental support to families living in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde with at least one child under the age of 5. Their approach is early intervention and prevention, and empowering parents to self-manage to achieve better physical and mental wellbeing outcomes for their families.
The young mums scheme can start from pre-birth with a Family Support Worker or Volunteer throughout pregnancy and in preparation for birth. Mellow Bumps, our antenatal programme, consists of 7 2-hour sessions to support parents-to-be, decrease stress levels during pregnancy, improve physical and mental wellbeing, and to help build a relationship with their baby before birth. Trained volunteers befriend and provide peer support group sessions targeted to the different challenges these families experience during pregnancy. Their efforts aim to develop resilience, reduce isolation and maximise family engagement with statutory and community services to tackle poverty and inequality. Indeed, parents are offered support to get involved in their local communities and strengthen social bonds.
Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde’s statement is to walk alongside young mums, supporting them and their children through various joys and challenges of life.
