GUEST SPEAKERS
Hilda Campbell MBE
With a background in social sciences, social enterprise, and mental health nursing, Hilda has spent decades creating and building networks, nurturing communities of practice, and leading transformative initiatives. In 1991, alongside local residents, she founded COPE Scotland, a charity that has grown from direct service delivery into a beacon of population-based mental wellbeing and capacity building.
Guided by the motto: “Success is not only what you do, but what you leave behind,” COPE Scotland’s mission is clear, create a world where people and the planet suffer less, through kindness to ourselves, each other, and the Earth.
Hilda’s work recognises the deep connection between life’s challenges and mental distress. That’s why COPE Scotland offers free resources to support self-care, coping strategies, and a sense of self-agency. Explore more at www.copescotland.com or reach out directly at hildac@copescotland.com.
Whether she’s leading community development workshops, training future leaders, or simply tending her garden with her husband (and a cat nearby), Hilda embodies the values she teaches—with warmth, wisdom, and a touch of chocolate.
Heather Wright
Heather began her career in occupational therapy after training at the Glasgow School of Occupational Therapy. Her professional journey has spanned a wide range of settings, starting in mental health and progressing through general practice, elderly care, and ultimately specialising in learning disabilities. During a period of childcare commitments, she worked with the Scottish Preschool Play Association, combining her OT expertise with a field worker role to support children with special needs.
Heather pursued specialist training in Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder, and became a link practitioner between the Autism Resource Centre (ARC) and the learning disability team. She also contributed to professional development by delivering sensory sessions on ARC’s advanced training course.
After retiring in 2012, Heather continued her commitment to neurodivergent communities by delivering one day professional training sessions for ARC. Her involvement expanded as she joined Carers Link in 2015 as a trainer and support worker, and Differabled Scotland in 2017 as a trainer. Over the years, she has developed a wide range of practical training materials for carers and neurodivergent individuals, focusing on strategies for children, teens, and adults, and offering abridged versions for professionals. Her work has grown to encompass a broad spectrum of neurodivergent conditions.
Heather’s particular interests lie in arousal regulation and sensory processing challenges. As a neurodivergent person herself, diagnosed with Dyslexia, Sensory Processing Disorder, and self-assessed ADHD, she brings personal insight to her work. Her three sons are also neurodivergent, with diagnoses including SPD, Dyslexia, and severe Dyspraxia. Heather’s passion is to help families and individuals better understand the impact of neurodivergent wiring in a world that often feels out of sync, and to promote more inclusive opportunities and life journeys.
